Saturday 9: Walking on Broken Glass (1992)
Thanks to Gal for hosting Sat-9.
Unfamiliar with this week’s tune? Hear it here.

1) Annie sings that she feels she’s walking on broken glass. What’s the most recent item you broke? 2002. My boss was fired. The incoming replacement fired me for being too loyal to the first boss. I wound up with another back operation but with a kick: I got a staph infection where at one time the doc said that I might want to get my affairs in order. I was bedridden at my mother’s place for over a year. My affairs are still not in order. Except with my neighbor’s wife.
2) She sings about being cut until she bleeds. Tell us about a time you needed stitches. 12 back/neck surgeries. You pick which one.

3) This week’s featured artist, Annie Lennox, was born on Christmas Day. Do you know anyone whose birthday falls on a holiday? Nope.
4) When Annie met Dave Stewart, with whom she’d form the duo The Eurythmics, she was living in Australia and staying in a tiny apartment called a bedsit. The occupant has his/her own combination bedroom/living room with cooking facilities, but must share a bathroom. Tell us about one of your early apartments. My apartment after my first marriage was a doozy. Third floor, two bedrooms, the heater in the kitchen. It was gas and showed the flames. It cost us each $200 a month. It had a huge kitchen which the fire & considering the heater, we called it The Hell’s Kitchen Studio. It was the first time that the studio name did not involve a street or town name. Right that one down, boys & girls. It will be on the test.
5) After the Eurythmics broke up, Annie went out on her own. Would you rather work independently, or as part of a group? Group. It’s how we do and write comedy. Except here. The last (and only) time I had help on this blog was in 2007-8 with Harvey Wallbanger.
6) Among her many honors, Annie Lennox was named chancellor of Scotland’s Glasgow Calledonia University. What’s the last college campus you visited? What brought you there? Bryant University. My son Ben graduated from there. He lived with me after my first marriage and lived with the second Mrs. Weiser until the divorce. Then we got an apartment together. My other two kids lived with me, but not for that long a period of time. The last time I was there was for his graduation.
7) In 1992, the year this song was recorded, compact discs outsold cassette tapes for the first time. Back in the day, did you enjoy making your own mix tapes? Oh ya. But you guessed that. I had about 200 music mix tapes. Now I have 15,000 songs that shuffle. It’s like my own radio station.
8) Also in 1992, Johnny Carson made his last appearance as host of The Tonight Show. The catchphrase, “Here’s Johnny!” was associated with the show. Can you think of another popular TV catchphrase? “Bazinga” Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory. “Dynamite” “JJ Walker on Good Times” “Hey” Fonzie on “Happy Days”. Should I go on. Nope.
9) Random question: Think of your past week. Now look ahead to the coming week. Would you like it to be more, or less, exciting? It’s been pretty damn exciting. I expect it to stay that way.
That’s a wrap for a Saturday. We should see you tomorrow for Stealing. Have a great day! And join us again. Same time. Same blog.
