Stealing: Christmas Questions Meme
1. Have you been naughty or nice this year? I’m not sure it’s a question of naught or nice, but much more survival. The last 13 months have been a wind whirl. My dad passed last December. My wife decided to leave. I held the hand of my favorite aunt as she passed away in her hospital bed. But I’m okay. I’m looking forward to see when the future will bring.
2. What do you want most for Christmas? Peace on Earth and wild sex. Or unwild sex, you see I’m flexible.
3. What is your favorite Christmas movie? As a kid, it was the various Scrooge “A Christmas Carole” movies. In fact it is the most repeated movie that WTIT has done take-offs of. By 1990 there were four versions. Scrooge has been played by Johnnie Walker, Bouncing Billy (twice) and Bruce Freeman. (A one and done guy. We met, I tried him out to join the 1975 crew, but it didn’t work out. His choice.) Our December show in 1990 was just Rock and I. I played him all the versions. He suggested that I write a new version using the best all the best lines. It took me a month but I did it. However since we didn’t record again until January, it was never produced. But in 1996, I remembered that I still had it. So on a December night we produce the definitive version. Johnnie returned a second time as Scrooge and Rock Rolling and I played most of the other rolls. To Scrooge: “I am the Ghost of Christmas Present”. Scrooge: “Oh, that explains why you’re all wrapped up and shaped like a box…”
4. How many Christmas cards do you normally send out? Close your eyes and what do you see?
5. Do you still get a stocking? My sister still hangs our stockings every Christmas Eve.
6. What is your favorite Christmas song? “Happy Xmas War is Over”
7. What is your favorite Christmas tv special? I don’t think I’ve had one.
8. What is your favorite way to wrap gifts? I ask someone else to do it.
9. What do you look forward to most at Christmas? Seeing family and getting a break from work. The break doesn’t last long since I’ll work both days next weekend.
10. What did you do for Christmas this year? Christmas Eve is the big day in our family. We recently found a picture of our relatives taken on Christmas Eve 1928. So, it’s been going on a long time. I think it will end when my mother passes. No one lives in the same place anymore. My kids all live out of state. So we get together either before or after.
11. Who do you want to kiss under the mistletoe? I’m pretty sure that I’ll figure that one out.
12. What kind of Christmas tree do you have? Artificial. I never understood why people go through all the crap and expense to use a real one. Don’t get me wrong, they are way nicer, but way too much for me.
13. Did you take part in a Secret Santa? No.
14. Did you go to any Christmas parties? No.
15. How early do you wake up on Christmas morning? That would depend on who I am with now wouldn’t it?
I started Saturday 9 yesterday but had to go to work so I never finished. I work today as well, but the stores do not open till noon. It’s certainly been a weird year. Here’s my summary with apologies to the Counting Crows:
A long December and there’s reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can’t remember the last thing that you said as you were leavin’
Now the days go by so fast
And it’s one more day selling booze to my stores
And it’s one more night in my sleepy town
It’s been so long since I’ve seen another woman but I love the sound
The smell of hospitals in winter
And the feeling that it’s all a lot of oysters, but no pearls
All at once you look across a crowded room
To see the way that light attaches to a girl
And it’s one more day selling booze to my stores
And it’s one more night in my sleepy town
If you thought I might go to crazy but I’m not down
Drove up to see my family sometime after two p.m.
And talked a little while about the year
I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower,
Makes you talk a little lower about the things you no longer show her
And it’s been a long December and there’s reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I can’t remember all the times I tried to tell my myself
To hold on to these moments as they pass
And it’s one more day selling booze to my stores
And it’s one more night in my sleepy town
It’s been so long since I’ve seen another woman but I love the sound
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I know that was a bit self serving and completely confusing if you do not understand all the particulars. But the original song is one my favorites. I had to mix it up since he sings of wanting his most recent “ex” back. While I wish nothing but the best for my soon-to-be ex, I have to worry more about me. She seems to be doing fine. She came by last weekend to put up my tree. She was concerned about my back. It was only that, it merely took her a half hour. The weirdest part is that I’m not angry anymore. When I think of her now it’s only about the divorce. I’ll remember her fondly. Have a wonderful holiday!
