I stayed over at my dad’s last night. He was led to believe that his illusion of being a billionaire was true. That patient advocate did a number on him. Then we talked sports. It was like it always was. Then he got angry because he couldn’t find something. My sister Amy (28) relieved me at 6:30 so I could go to work. My sister Diane took him to the hospital in hopes of getting him into the facility that she & my brother want. He had to be restrained. My dad isn’t like this…
You’re going to feel a lot about this, and it’s gonna be intense. You may find yourself angry at your dad for bewildering and belligerent behavior and angry at yourself for not being more patient. It’s all scary and exhausting, but none of this has anything to do with how much you love your dad. Anyone who has read your writings knows about your joy in his joys (karaoke and the Cubs).
I so appreciate your comments. I know I’m very lucky to have my parents still around at my age. At our wedding in 2012, I made sure to get a picture of my parents with our flower girl & ring-barer, my granddaughters Lindsay & Lauren. I think they will treasure the picture since they at ages 6 & 11 will remember them…
