Doesn’t summer always go too fast? I am not a beach person, I used to be, but after a million visits with various girlfriends, wives and most importantly my kids, I am done with sand. I still enjoy summer. This summer went quickly for me for another reason as well. My son James is moving to California with his girlfriend the weekend after this one. He has been staying with me since October. I will miss him. My sister Diane is throwing a party for James and his girlfriend Claire on Saturday.
It is going to be a lot of fun getting the family together. My older son Ben and his wife Maria will be there, along with my older daughter Heather, her husband Alec and I would guess with my granddaughters Lauren and Lindsay. Lots of photo ops! My youngest daughter Jules who just turned 21 will be there, as well. James’ mother and her husband are going to be at the party along with Claire’s family. My brother Mark and his family live in the Boston area and we were excited that they will be at the gathering. My Mom will be at the party, too.
The only question mark is my Dad, Bierne. He just called me to explain his conflict. He is suppose to sing at a wedding. He is 80 and sings at piano bars a couple a nights a week. He doesn’t get paid but he loves it and the customers really get a kick out of him. This is not the first wedding at which he has been asked to sing. Everyone says the same thing: He sounds a lot like Louis Armstrong. Satchmo’s music is his favorite, but he sings other artist’s songs as well. Somehow the songs still all sound like Louis. I’ve been out at piano bars a lot with him. When folks hear him for the first time people always tells him the he sounds like a “white” version of Louie. He always replies and gets a laugh by saying, “In the day, Louie was told he sounded like a black Bierne Fisher.” No one has ever said that Bierne lacked confidence.
