I’d call this blog “Take Two” but that would get old really fast. While we’ve been working on this site, the hardest part of doing a blog is deciding where we should start. Today, it occurred to me. How about the beginning? Now if you haven’t read the “history” part of our WTIT.net site, start there. This is confusing enough without the basic info.
We purchased a mono reel-to-reel tape deck in 1966. A group of friends did a few “tape radio” (or fake radio, whatever floats your boat) shows. We called that Tape Radio station, WWWW. We said it was WWWW because we couldn’t think of another letter. We didn’t save the tapes (although we still have a few bits from those days). There were a few guys who did those tapes that actually stayed through to the inception of WTIT. Now, remember we were 15 years old when we started this, thus the brilliant call letters. The funny thing though was, that since we never changed the letters. Our parents, and later our girlfriends, then wives, the kids, all accepted the WTIT call letters for what they really were, just four letters. When our 80 something year old parents call and say “Anything new at WTIT?” You know you are entrenched. The guys who taped on WWWW were Dynamic Dick, Gabby Linger and Bud Weiser. All would contribute to the beginning of WTIT, but by the end of the first year of taping the music show and comedy bits, both Gabby & Dick had left. (Probably smartly, all we were doing was talking into a tape recorder.
Next: The first WTIT Tape. Tape 10. (Not Tape One?) No. and we will explain why…
