Lola: Fare Thee Well

Before we get to Crazy Sam and her Saturday 9, I have to update those who were with us through our original Saturday feature, Lola’s Saturday 8. With Lola this was a fantastic feature. Her questions and personality were the direct opposite of ours. It was SO easy just bitching at her about how stupid her question was. She hated us and our participation in her meme. She’d ALWAYS delete our comment even if we just said, “We have done it. Our answers are up”.

Lola had maybe four people that still did the meme. But it all went fine until she changed websites; and then started skipping weeks. First it was a couple of weeks. And then it was more. She then skipped LOTS of weeks. By the end, she posted much less than one a month. Anyway most of this we have said in our regular prelude to each week’s Saturday 9 (and how we discovered this current feature.) We miss her. We fought so much and the posts we did back then were some of this sites’ best comedy. We read those posts recently by clicking the feature/label name Saturday 8 on my side bar. Today exactly 90 days after her final post, we said goodbye to Lola on her blog. As of Saturday May 17, 2008 at 20:25 hours, Lola has not deleted our message. Maybe we do get the last word! Today we posted our farewell on her site:

And yet you never even said goodbye. Mores the pity. I hope you have a great life & thanks for the memories!

We’re glad Crazy Sam’s Saturday 9 took her place. But Sam is nice. Lola was an ass. Making fun of an ass is better comedy (Sorry, Sam!) yet we have had a great response to this newer feature. Let’s get started!
Every Saturday WTIT: The Blog brings you a meme called Saturday 9. It’s not to say that this is a bright idea, but it is what we do. A woman named Crazy Sam started this meme because our prior Saturday meme specialist (and great buddy) Lola went into hibernation. (Lola seemed to try to post occasionally, but it appeared that her sporadic posting took its toll. She had lost the few folks that had still participated to Crazy Sam. It now appears that she has officially retired. Her finally post appears to have been on February 16, 2008. It garnered no comments. R.I.P.) So, Sam contacted all Lola’s participants and invited us to participate in her meme. We are not sure why she included us, but she did. And we are glad she did. All of Sam’s questions and writing are in bold.

1. Name the one song that reminds you of your most current or recent relationship. Can’t Get You Off of My Mind by Lenny Kravitz. It just hit us one night while we were listening to music. It expressed our feelings exactly.

2. Name the one song that was way overplayed and you hate. There were so many songs I the late 60’s and early 70’s songs that we called “bubblegum songs”. The most overplayed of that genre was in 1969 and Sugar Sugar by the Archies. A Saturday morning fucking cartoon band at that.

3. Name the one song it seems everyone loves but you don’t. “Love and Marriage.” Yea. Like you could have both.

4. Name the one song you think everyone hates but you love. I can only think of a Neil Young song. Rock Rolling, a WTIT DJ, said during a shoe: “The man cannot sing. He is a really sloppy guitarist. You like him, why?” We have to agree with the assessment, yet we still love songs by Neil Young. But as it is with other artists including Dylan, sometimes the cover versions of their songs are better.

5. Name the one song that is sung by someone you’d love to date. I’ll go with Strong Enough by Sheryl Crow. She is very talented, is smart and is hot. In fact she is by far the most talented rock female artist of the last fifteen to twenty years. And she broke it off with Lance Armstrong just before they were to wed. He only has one ball. You think? Nah, probably not.

6. Name the one song this season that was sung best on American Idol. I really enjoyed Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Jason Castro.

7. Name the one song that you think is the best love song of the 00’s thus far. It’s not a really love song, but let’s go with Love Song by Sara Bareilles. It’s smart and catchy and we can’t of another. And we promise to stop talking about her. Honest.

8. Name the one song that you think was the best 90’s song. WTIT had a Countdown Show of the Top 100 Songs of the 90’s. Mr. Jones by The Counting Crows was number one. We’ll stick with our judgment from 1999.

9. Name the one song from a TV theme that you like the best. We just heard the full version of the Cheers theme once again on our iPod. It only aired on only the last episode.

Here are the lyrics:

Making your way in the world today, takes everything you’ve got;

Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
All those night when you’ve got no lights,
The check is in the mail;
And your little angel hung the cat up by it’s tail;
And your third fiance didn’t show;
Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name,
And they’re always glad you came;
You want to be where you can see, our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name.

Roll out of bed, Mr. Coffee’s dead;
The morning’s looking bright;
And your shrink ran off to Europe, and didn’t even write;
And your husband wants to be a girl;

Be glad there’s one place in the world where everybody knows your name, And they’re always glad you came;
You want to go where people know, people are all the same;
You want to go where everybody knows your name.
Where everybody knows your name, And they’re always glad you came;
Where everybody knows your name, And they’re always glad you came…

We hope that when we come back
that you will be here.
We will return here on
WTIT: The Tape Radio Blog.
But, you don’t have to promise
to join us or anything like that.
And we don’t take attendence
Same time. Same Blog. Goodnight, Sam.
